How we calculate impact
The Green Gear Alliance measures impact based on actual collected and processed volumes. For each processing route, we apply conversion factors that show the environmental benefit generated per kilogram of material processed or per order placed.
Some examples:
> 1 kg of textiles reused saves 15.57 kg of CO₂.
> 1 kg of safety or work shoes recycled saves 4.28 kg of CO₂.
Using these factors, we automatically calculate your organization's total impact from collected products.
What factors do we measure?
We measure more than just collection volumes—we also quantify the environmental and social impact generated. Our reports track the following key metrics:
> Carbon savings (CO₂)
> Water savings
> Energy savings
> Social return
Social return
The Green Gear Alliance measures not just environmental impact, but also social benefit. This is why our dashboard includes social return metrics.
We partner with Stepa, a social enterprise dedicated to supporting people with barriers to employment, to handle the logistics of our collection orders.
For each collection order, we allocate 5 minutes of social employment value. This represents the work Stepa performs in processing and fulfilling the order.
Through this approach, every collection contributes both to a circular economy and to meaningful employment and social inclusion.
